An estimated 500,000 people are running away from the fighting with the few belongings they can carry.

Abdur Rahman, one of the displaced who fled to Mardan, told Al Jazeera: "People from all over - from Matta, Mingora and from everywhere - [are fleeing] on foot. Women and children and even old women and old men.

"Some of them died on the road, but no one was willing to offer us any help - neither the army nor the Taliban.

"They are both committing atrocities and cruelty against the ordinary people."

It was not possible for Al Jazeera to verify accusations of atrocities.

Civilian exodus

About half a million people are believed to be leaving the region, in addition to more than 550,000 people already displaced from Swat and nearby areas since August.

In video

Mass exodus from Swat
Aid camps face challenge to accommodate displaced
Deepening crisis in Swat
Washington welcomes Pakistan Swat offensive

The army lifted its curfew on the area briefly on Sunday to allow residents to flee, before imposing it again with a "shoot on sight" order for anyone who violated it.

Many of those fleeing have headed to nearby villages, but thousands more are gathering at any of 11 refugee camps around the province.

How to Choose a Good Book

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nYyFoznkyFY/SBYRm_dEwSI/AAAAAAAABvs/9bBKtHSpKkI/s400/books2.jpg" border="0" alt="books"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194358581784527138" />

You love reading, and you're dying to get your hands on a book. But you've read all your books four times, and are tired of the same ones. You're planning to go to the library, but don't know what kind of book to get. Here's how to choose:

Steps:
1- Make a list answering these questions:

What kind of books do you like?

What authors do you like? Research books by authors you've enjoyed in the past. Chances are they have another publication that you'll also enjoy.

Is there a type of book, or a specific book you would like to try?

Are there any books in a certain series you would like?

What are your interests? Insert your hobbies into your library catalog search and set it to, "Keyword."

<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_nYyFoznkyFY/SBYRmvdEwRI/AAAAAAAABvk/bRci57HmJUo/s400/books.jpg" border="0" alt="books"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194358577489559826" />

2- Search your house. Often times good books will be quietly collecting dust in your own house. Maybe you forgot about one or someone who is living with you has a couple good books.

3- Ask someone to recommend a good book. You can ask your older sibling, your mom, your dad, your best friend, or even your English teacher. Friends or family with whom you have things in common can often make excellent book recommendations. Local, small bookstores often have wonderful recommendations, and when they get to know you, it's even better!

4- Read book reviews in newspapers and magazines. Read the bestseller lists published in most newspapers or weekly magazines. Find out which new books are making headlines, and why.

5- Join a book club. Being a book club member is often a way to experience new books you might never have had the motivation to read otherwise.

6- See if the library or bookstore has computers. If it does, then look on the library's search engine. You can use the search engine to find a certain book, books by a certain author, or anything as broad as just a certain genre.

7- Ask the librarian or book seller about the location of the books you're looking for. He/she will be happy to help you.

8- Skim through the shelves in the section you're interested in. If you see anything that looks appealing, pick it up and read the back of the book. Skim over the back of the book or the inside flap, wherever the summary is. If that holds your attention, read the first page or so. If it still holds your attention, then it's probably a good book for you. The subject might be interesting to you, but the writing style can be key to enjoying it. If it looks interesting, put it in your pile. Keep doing this until you have a few books.

9- Find a place to sit, or stand if you must, and read the first chapter of each book. Of course, if you have so many books, this can be time consuming.

10- Narrow down your stack. So consider your selections. If you would rather have book 1 over book 2, put book 2 back. Keep doing this. If you would rather have book 3 then book 1, put book 1 back, etc.

11- Once you have found your book, try reading a few chapters just to make sure you don't get bored right away. You can also just flip to random pages and read them.
<img style="display:block; margin:0px auto 10px; text-align:center;cursor:pointer; cursor:hand;" src="http://4.bp.blogspot.com/_nYyFoznkyFY/SBYRm_dEwTI/AAAAAAAABv0/e6v9LLaFfSw/s400/gbooks2.jpg" border="0" alt="books"id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194358581784527154" />

Tips:

If you liked the book you chose, it can be a good guide when getting other books. Often, if you look up the book on a website, it will give you a list of books that are similar. For instance, go to the Amazon listing for one of your favorite books, and scroll down to the section titled "Customers who bought this item also bought". Don't stick to just this one category though. Try different books, because you never know what you will find!

Keep your own reading list. When a book has been recommended to you, write it down immediately and use it as a reference once you're in the library or bookstore.

Make sure the book is age appropriate. Of course it's always okay to check out a little kids book every once in a while, just for the fun of it.

Don't damage the library's books. You don't want to have to pay!

Turn in the book on time, or you'll have to pay late fees.

You won't do yourself any harm if you check out too many books, or don't read books you check out of the library. Just make sure to turn them in on time. Consider bringing a book bag or tote.

Warnings:
Don't think you have to read or like a book just because everyone else does. If you are reading a book for fun that you don't like or can't get through, it's ok to abandon it for something else.
Reading can be addictive, but this is not necessarily a bad thing.

How to Import from China

You may be able to find a new business opportunity or profit growth by directly importing products from china. It can be complicated, but it can pay off in both immediate profit and long-term success. The process is becoming easier and easier thanks to the trend of globalization and advances in international trade technology.

Steps:
1- Find the products youre interested in. There are many sources to find your products. the internet is the easiest one to start with. there are many web listing services, including here, you can register your username, post the products of your interest, and you will receive tons of products supply information and perhaps a price list.

2- Establish a relationship with potential suppliers. Select a few potential suppliers to communicate with. Narrow down the ones that you really want to work with. discuss the price and trade relationship. Obtain product samples. Discuss shipping and payment terms. Gather all necessary information to prepare for placing a trial order.

3- Understand trade terms and use them. Before placing any order, you need to understand and confirm with your suppliers about shipment terms. Most popular are fob and cif, as well as payment terms. These are closely related to your landing cost calculation and risk assessment. You can consult an import management company and a freight forwarder for detail break-down on the costs and risks. You can also use an import management company to negotiate the trade terms.

4- Do your homework on compliance issues. You need to understand the relevant import compliance regulations beforehand. Besides US Customs and Border Protection, other government authorities like USDA, FDA, DOT, and atf also regulate the importation. pay particular attention when you import textile products from china. Go to the websites of these agencies to understand, register or download the forms. compliance issues can be very complicated for some products. It is highly recommended to consult a good customs house broker before placing any order.

5- Select a forwarder and customs house broker. Go to your local international trade organization/association and customs office to find the list. Visit them, and select the one you like. For the first time importer, use more individualized services, because you need more attention than you would expect.

6- Place a trial order with a written purchase order if everything goes well. In the purchase order, besides typing out a detailed description of the products and trade terms, list all needed shipping documents.

7- Appoint an inspection company to check your goods on site in the factory, and give you a detailed report. This is usually done a few days before the expected shipment, so you can address any issues that would be raised. This will allow you to avoid receiving defective or non-conforming goods.

8- Track the transportation and customs clearance. Your forwarder and customs broker should take care of your transportation and customs clearance. However, you also need to track the process and assistance, such as providing additional products information and endorsing bill of landing. You need to issue a power of attorney to your broker and purchase customs bond for your importation.

9- Receive the products and keep the records. Now you can go to your next step to sell your products and make profit.

Tips:

Pay attention to the kind of business of your supplier; are they manufacturers, or 3rd party suppliers? Compare the advantage and disadvantage. Manufacturers may have a faster response in the process of product development, while 3rd-party suppliers have broader channels that can satisfy your other needs in the future. Working with 4th-party suppliers is not recommended.

Establishing healthy personal relationship with the key employees of your supplier is very important when doing business with Chinese people. Learn the term guanxi (gwan-shee), which loosely means relationship, and keep in mind that saving face is very important for Chinese people.

You need to have a good estimate of the landing cost before you make your order. Landing cost = cost of the goods fob + transport costs by forwarder + import duties (if any) + local transport costs + cost of service providers (inspections, agents, etc.). There may be many hidden costs and you can consult an import management company, but the best way to avoid bad surprises is by making a first order of a small quantity, and collect all costs and fine tune your landing cost estimate.

Pay attention to import duties. Import duties depend on hs code of the goods you import, the countries of origin (China) and destination. If your Chinese supplier has some export experience, he shall know what is the HS code for your product, but do your homework and check the product description of the HS code corresponds to the product you import. Definitions are sometime vague. A wrong HS code may delay the custom clearance of your shipment.

A letter of credit is commonly used in trade with China. Go to your bank to get detail formality and cost.

Export agents in China are very commonly hired by Chinese exporters. Some of these export agents are also 3rd-party suppliers, others just provide export services.

Neglecting compliance can be very costly. This may force you to pay expensive and unexpected customs duty, such as anti-dumping duty, as well as risk delaying your customs clearance. This will cost you expensive storage fees at a railway station or container yard.

If solid wood packaging material is used, talk to your broker. Sometimes vallet packing is necessary to reduce the transportation cost during the process of loading and unloading. Talk to your forwarder for details. All wooden packaging for export must follow the nimp15 treated wood specifications. If your supplier is using wooden packaging, make sure he delivers a nimp15 certificate with other export documentation.

How to Import a Car from Japan to Australia

Learn Exactly how to import a car from Japan. This Step-by-step process will get you in the drivers seat of your dream car in less then 2 months from now!

Steps:
With regrds to the first step you can buy from auctions, car yards or private sellers.
If you need extra help to import your car you should look at Import A Jap Car They can help import cars from Japan to Australia with their guide. Otherwise, look at the steps below as they are very helpful.

1- First off you need to find the car you want to import.

2- Once you have found your car its time to pay your exporter their fee and the cost of the car FOB (freight on board).

3- Your exporter will then give you all of the shipping information.

4- Usually the car is shipped out within the next week.

5- Once the car arrives its time to make the next payment which is for: freight, GST quarantine

6- Once the car has been through quarantine you can then pick it up. You cannot drive it until it has been through quarantine so you will need to book a car carrier.

7- Book your car in at a compliance centre - see 'Compliancing' below.

8- Once complied you will then need a temp. rego to drive the car to your local Transport centre for rego. You can also hire a truck to take it their.

9- An officer will then inspect the compliance plate and your docs.

10- Your Japanese car is now registered and can be driven on Australian roads!

Compliancing:
When a car is imported into Australia, it needs a compliance certificate to prove that it meets Australian road safety standards. The cost and amount of effort involved to ensure a vehicle meets Australian standards varies, but in general the following process is completed.

1- New seat belts are fitted.

2- Child restraint anchorage points.

3- Anti intrusion bars fitted (if not factory installed).

4- The filler neck for fuel changed.

5- New filters are installed.

6- All vehicle fluids are replaced.

7- New tyres.

8- An Engineer's inspection is carried out.

9- Brakes Pads checked.
Once this process is completed and the car meets Australian standards a compliance plate is fitted and the vehicle can be registered.

Tips:

Be prepared for slight delays in shipping and quarantine.

Be sure to investigate how much work will be required to obtain a Compliance certificate for the particular vehicle, and budget for this.

How to Check out a Used Car Before Buying It

If you are thinking about purchasing a used car, you know how confusing it can be. There are so many things to consider that it can be a daunting experience. This is even truer if you are considering buying a car for the first time. There are many things to look for when purchasing a used car but one important factor is to give the car a physical check before making your final decision. Here, then, are a few general pointers on how to physically check out a used car before you buy it.

Steps:

1- Make sure that the car is on level ground before checking it out. This is to ensure that you will be able to clearly check the tires and to see if there is anything sagging on the car.

2- Carefully check the paint job of the car, taking note of any rust spots, dents or scratches. Look at the sides of the car from end-on for waviness; that indicates paint work. Run your finger along the edges of the joints between panels; roughness indicates residue left from masking tape.

3- Check the trunk of the car to make sure it is still in good condition. It should not show any sign of rust, or water entry due to cracks or holes. Wear inside of the trunk indicates usage of the car.

4- Check under the hood of the car for any indication of dents, damage or rust. These can all be signs that the car was either poorly taken care of or damaged. Each fender, just inside where the hood joins should have the decal with the VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) of the car; if one is missing, that fender was replaced.

5- The hoses and belts should not have cracks, the radiator hoses should not be soft.

6- Go inside the car and check the seats and upholstery of the car for any tears, rips, stains, or other type of damage.

7-Check to make sure the air-conditioning of the car is working well by turning it on to see that it works. If air conditioning is a must buy a car with R134 coolant. Most cars fitted with R134 are 1993 or newer and have a sticker on the AC Condenser.

8- Check the odometer of the car for the mileage. This is important because the mileage indicates the car’s age. On the average, a normal driver will drive between 10,000 to 15,000 miles a year; however, this depends on many factors. Remember, cars age by time and mileage. Buying a 10 year old car with very low miles is not necessarily a good thing.

9- Test drive the car before making any final decisions. This is perhaps one of the best ways to know the condition of the car. Hence, a buyer should make all effort to do a test drive first before coming to any decisions.

10- Check out the car's service history which should give you some information regarding the performances, repairs, and problems of the car. Ideally, the current owner would have kept a record of the times when the car needed servicing and should be willing to show you this information. There are instances where used cars are sold because of past accidents or negative experiences.

11- Be sure to check the brakes of the car by pressing down hard enough on the brakes to decelerate rapidly, but not enough to slide. Try this going around 30 mph in an area without traffic. You should not feel any vibration from the brake pedal, or hear any squealing or strange noises. Brakes that pulsate indicate the need for having the rotors resurfaced or replaced and new pads installed. It should not swerve; this can be caused by a bad brake caliper or worn steering components.

12- Inspect the engine for any sort of leaks, or corrosion. On the engine block, look for any dark brown oil stains, this will indicate that there is a leak in a gasket, and could possibly lead to an expensive repair in the future. Check the brake fluid, and reservoir to make sure its is not leaking. The belts should look new (i.e. not have cracks or signs of drying). Old belts can snap, and if you do not know how to replace them, it will cost between $100-500 depending on which belt goes bad.

13- Remove the oil filler cap. A foam residue on the inside indicates a leaking head gasket. Forget that car. Look at the condition of the coolant in the overflow jar; filthy brown coolant means it's never been flushed and often means a leaky head gasket.

14- Pull the transmission dipstick; the fluid should be pink or red. An old car may be dark but it should not look or smell burnt. It should also be full (check with the engine running).

15- The timing belt is the most important belt in the engine, and is also the most costly to replace. If the car is equipped with a steel timing chain, you don't have to worry about this. Normal lifespan of a timing belt is from 60-100+ thousand miles; this depends on the manufacturer.

16- The tires should be worn evenly and they should match. Look at the surface of the tire for feathering (bad alignment). Bad alignment can be caused by worn steering/suspension components, the pothole down the street or frame damage.

17- Never buy a frame damaged car. Check the saddle (connects the front fenders and holds the top of the radiator). It should not be welded on either side, it should be bolted in. Inspect the bolt heads at the top of the fenders inside the hood; scratch marks indicates that the fenders have been replaced or realigned (after a crash). Look for welds inside the door jambs.

18- If you are able, try to get under the car when it is safely raised and inspect the exhaust system or any under-body rust. This is also the time to inspect for frame or unibody damage.

19- It is definitely worth the money to go to a mechanic and have them inspect it. This will cost some money, but its better to pay 50-75 bucks to get a car inspected and find out its not worth the investment, than to spend $10,000 on a car and find out within a few months, you are going to have to spend more money on repairs for it.

20- Do not pay sticker price. A used car is a negotiable item. Do not feel the need to pay the price they are asking. The dealer bought this car at a low price, and is turning around and selling it for much more than they purchased it with the notion that they might have to lower that sticker price. Depending on the quality of the vehicle, feel free to offer a price. Be sure that it is a reasonable offer. If the dealer is asking $15,000, do not offer $10,000. It is merely an insult by doing this. If the car is over $10,000, try to negotiate at least $1500 off of the car. You can pre-qualify yourself at your bank or at a Credit Union. That will determine what you can spend for a car. Try to buy a car that is less than they tell you. Most people try to buy more car than they can really afford. Remember, no matter how good that car is today, it is going to require maintenance in the future. Use parts of the car that are unflattering to your advantage. If a car is not the color you are looking for, tell the dealer "I really like the car, but I don't like that it is green, that is the only thing holding me back from buying it" The dealer will see that you want it, and find some way to get you into that car.

How to Choose the Right Telescope

Ever been interested in space and the night sky? Well, these steps will start you off on a great adventure.

Steps:
1- The diameter of the objective lens or mirror is the most important number describing a telescope. Larger diameter lenses or mirrors allow higher resolution (ability to separate closely spaced objects) and will gather more light from faint astronomical objects. They also cost more.

2- Magnification is relatively unimportant and is often hyped in advertising claims for inexpensive telescopes. In astronomy the purpose of a telescope is mostly to collect light from faint objects, not to magnify them.

3- Too much magnification just gives you a useless blur. A good rule of thumb that I have found to determine the maximum usable magnification is to multiply the diameter of the objective in millimeters by 2.5 (which means that the typical department store 60mm scope is only usable to 150x, not the "WOW, 625 POWER!!!" many of them claim). In actual practice, on nights of extremely unusual atmospheric stability, you -may- be able to use a somewhat higher power, but don't count on it. Don't buy a $200 eyepiece to get a higher power, spend it on a better scope, instead. Alternately, spend money on a LOWER power eyepiece than the one that came with your scope (something like a 20mm Erfle eyepiece is a good choice) Avoid Kellner eyepieces, which are generally some of the cheapest but also hard to use. The better eyepieces have larger "eye relief," which represents how close you have to get your eye to the eyepiece to observer clearly. If the eye relief is too small you will have to bring your eye very close to the eyepiece, and it will be all but impossible to observe for more than a few seconds at a time.

4- Look for a steady mounting, an unstable or shaky mounting will ruin your observing experience. In general, the more massive the mount looks, the better it performs. When in doubt, spend more on a mount.

5- Join an astronomy club and learn to use someone else's telescope before buying your own. Sky and Telescope magazine offers a guide to US astronomy clubs on its web site (http://skyandtelescope.com/resources/organizations/).

6- Start with a pair of binoculars and learn to find things in the sky before buying a telescope.

7- Don't expect a small telescope to show the same images that you see in astronomy textbooks, which are usually long time exposures and may have been taken by much larger professional grade telescopes.

Warnings:
Never look at the sun with some telescopes ,because not only will it damage your eyes it will break and fracture the glass of your telescope. Most telescopes nowadays do not include solar filters that screw onto the bottom of your eyepiece, but if you get a telescope that does, throw away or destroy these filters. The only safe filters fit on the front end of the telescope and reduce the sun's intense heat and light before it even enters the telescope. They must still be used with great care, and the small guidescope with your scope must be covered or removed to prevent someone from inadvertently glancing in it while you are pointing at the Sun. A guidescope or binoculars are still just as dangerous to point at the Sun as your main telescope.

How to Backup a Folder With a Flash Memory Drive

This guide will explain how to use a Flash Memory drive to backup the Shared Documents folder on a computer.

Steps:
1-Insert Flash Memory Drive into the USB port on the front, side or rear of the computer.

2-Double click "My Computer" on the Desktop or go to Start - My Computer.

3-Right Click the Shared Documents folder, select "Send To", and then select "Removable Device".

4-If you receive a prompt to overwrite the files currently on the drive, check to make sure you do not want the old versions of the files. If you do not receive the overwrite prompt, then proceed to step 5.

5-The files will begin to copy over to the Flash Memory drive. This can take a long time, depending upon the amount of data that is being transferred. When it is complete the "File Transfer" window will disappear.

6-In My Computer, Right Click the Removable Device and select Eject. It will then disappear from the screen and you can unplug the Flash Memory Card from the computer.

Tips:
Make sure your Flash Drive has enough space to store all the documents you want to backup. 256 MB should be plenty for simple Word or Excel documents.

Warnings:
Never remove the flash drive without first hitting "eject" , otherwise you could lose your data and damage your flash drive and computer.

How to Add an Extra Hard Drive in your

Need more storage on your computer? This article will show you some simple steps to help you add a new hard drive and more storage space to your computer.

Steps:
Check if you need the IDE (parallel ATA) or Serial ATA. While older computers support IDE, new may only support Serial ATA. If you are not sure, open the computer case and try to determine the type of the used drives from the view. It is safer to use the same type that is already installed, even if the sockets for another type also appear to be present.
Make sure you have room for an extra hard drive, here's one way to do this:

Restart your computer and go into the BIOS menu.

Go to the "Standard CMOS Settings."

In this menu, you will find four settings labeled as follows: PRIMARY MASTER:, AUTO/PRIMARY SLAVE:, SECONDARY MASTER:, SECONDARY SLAVE:. Change all fields to auto detection.

Reboot your computer

On the first or second screen, you will see something like the screen above and it will say detecting (drive(prim/sec)) : (name of the drive if present). If any of them say none, remember which drive it is. If all of them have a drive name, all your bays are filled and you can't add a new hard drive without removing a disk drive or hard drive. Consider making an external USB drive.

3-Get the actual hard drive. Go to your local computer store or buy online from Newegg or another retailer. Make sure that the type (SATA or PATA) matches. If you plan on replacing your existing hard drive, be sure to get one with enough space to compensate for what you're losing.

4-Shut down your computer.

5-Unplug all of the cords from the back of your computer and pull the computer out from the desk.

6-Remove the case screws. If you have a Dell, you only need to push down on the release latch on the back. If you're having difficulty, it's a good idea to consult your manual on how your particular case is removed. Put the screws in a safe place so you don't lose them. Remove the side panel and place it out of the way.

7-Find the area where all the flat ribbon cables connect to the main board.(fig. 3) Find the cable that corresponds to the free drive that was detected in step 1-6, either primary or secondary.

8-Set the jumpers so the drive knows whether to act as a master or slave. The jumpers are the set of pins on the back of the hard drive. They'll have a couple of rubber blocks covering some pins. Find the diagram or instructions for your new drive on to set the jumper for the master/slave.

9-Find the empty bay in your computer case. Using the screws that came with the drive, mount the drive.

10-Connect the cable that you found in step 6 to the hard drive. If it won't go in, make sure that the safety bump is aligned with the hole.

11- Connect a power cable, (a smaller connector with red, yellow, and black wires).

12- Put the side panel back on the computer and put the screws back in.

13- Plug all of the cables back into the rear of the computer, and connect them to their power sources if you unplugged them.

14-Boot up the computer. Go into your BIOS at startup (most likely by pressing F10 or DEL as the computer starts). Check the BIOS auto detect to ensure the second drive is detected. On the screen that shows that primary master/slave, secondary master/slave you should see the name of your new hard drive.

Tips:

SATA hard drives work pretty much the same. Read the instructions in the package to install these. Be careful, though. Only SATA-enabled motherboards will accept these drives.

Consider buying (or making, see Build an External Hard Drive) an external hard drive if you have USB support on your computer. They plug directly into the USB port and work like any other hard drive, except you have to take extra steps if you would like to boot from it.

If there is a BIOS problem indicated, make sure the original hard drive (HD) is set to "Master"; or if the original HD is set to CS (cable select), make sure it is at the end of the IDE cable (make sure you have a cable select ribbon cable. They will be labeled on each connector).

Warnings:

This guide is not intended for Macintoshes. Also, clamshell cases may work differently.

Do not make any other changes in the CMOS settings. Each setting changes how you computer operates and you can inadvertently make your computer inoperable.

Most hard drives are sensitive to Electrostatic Discharge (ESD). Properly ground yourself while performing this procedure, (or, ideally, any kind of electronic work.) If that is not possible just don't attempt it after walking barefoot on a carpet or other similar conditions. Also, to reduce the risk, handle your hard drive as little as possible; pick it up and put it in, don't fool around with it.

How to Create a Wireless Network

Computer networking is a great way to collaborate with other computer users in your home or office. While it is becoming increasingly easy for the basic computer user, it can still be a difficult, frustrating experience for many people.

Before you begin:
Understand the difference between town-wide wireless broadband (IEEE 802.16/WiMAX) and a home wireless network (IEEE 802.11). This article deals only with the latter generally known as WiFi (which requires no subscription, no roof aerial, no roof mounted dish). Wireless routers are variously known as gateways, access points, transmitters, hubs and switches. They are generally external and will be known as routers for this article. Wireless adapters are also known as modems or receivers and can be internal or external.

Steps:
1-If buying router and adapter separately, ensure your wireless router is at least as new as your wireless adapter so that they use compatible standards (known as 802.11a, 802.11b, 802.11g and 802.11n). For maximum compatibility choose Tri-mode or dual-mode 802.11b/g standards.

2-If you are not using Windows XP, check that drivers are available for the chipset of the wireless adapter for your operating system before you buy.

Set up your new router:
1-If you want to share a broadband connection via a wireless router, plug the new wireless router into your internet connection point (filter/splitter if ADSL, directly into phone socket if DSL)

2-If you have one, turn on your broadband connection and existing external modem FIRST (wait for all lights to return to normal).

3-Plug your router into your PC with an ethernet cable

4-Turn on your new wireless router SECOND (wait for it to start up fully).

5-Go to your internet browser and type http://192.168.0.1 (Belkin), http://192.168.1.1 (Linksys), http://192.168.2.1 (Others) and enter your username and password for your router (often this is "admin" and "admin")

6-Enable wireless capability (SSID) and enter your username and password given to you by your internet service provider.

7-Choose WPA (or WEP if your card cannot handle WPA) security and enter a passkey and write it down.

Detecting your wireless adapter:
1-Note the manufacturer and model of your wireless adapter then plug it into your PC.

2-If your operating system does not recognise the wireless adapter then get drivers from any discs that came with the adapter or, failing that, from the internet.

3-In Windows XP, either right click on the .inf file and click install, or enter Device Manager and Update Drivers on the Unknown Device.

4-Once Windows XP recognises your wireless device it should appear in Network Connections and offer you a choice of routers to connect to within range.

Connecting to a network:
1-Choose your router (usually the manufacturer name aka SSID), the security method and enter the passkey in order to connect to it. Use Auto DHCP unless otherwise instructed.

2-This should find the wireless router (click refresh until it does) and connect to the network through the new router.

Tips:

Sharing files (or ensuring that your computers are really networked) and/or a printer in Windows XP, requires Print and File Sharing enabled on all computers.

In Windows XP or Vista, go to Start > Control Panel > Network Connections (click "Switch to Classic View" if you cannot see the Network Connections icon) > right click on your Local Area Connection ethernet adapter > Properties > check File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft Networks > Click "OK"

In Mac OS X, click on the Apple menu on the Menu Bar and click on "System Preferences...". Then, click on "Sharing". Then you may select which service that you want to be shared on your wireless network. For further support, click on the Apple Support Page link for sharing on your wireless network. Apple Sharing Support

A passkey is not the same as a HEX key.

Warnings:

Turning on your equipment in the wrong order could cause your new setup to not work! Be sure to power on each item in order. It really does matter.

Remember to set up your security settings to prevent unauthorized access to your network. WPA encryption is much more secure than WEP.

Also remember to change the default passwords and usernames on your wireless router. Many wardrivers will travel around finding hotspots and then trying the default codes for that type of access point. This could result in you getting locked out of your own router and having to manualy reset your network.

How to Use a Voltmeter

<img id="BLOGGER_PHOTO_ID_5194176075739217842" style="DISPLAY: block; All you have to do is follow this guide, and be messy no more!

Steps:
1-Move your desk enough so that you have adequate (or above) working space.

2-Get all the supplies listed below and turn off all devices/Power strip/UPS

3-The trick is to tape all the wires together with your electrical tape (see Things You'll Need below) that share the same device/type (i.e. Audio with Audio or Monitor Video w/ Monitor Power, etc.), I, mostly taped the same devices together with some wires taped together of the same class (i.e. Video, Audio, USB, etc.)

4-Push your desk back to the wall (or whatever it's up against, mine is on the wall) and turn on the power on your devices/Power Strip/UPS

5-That's it! You have officially organized your desk wiring!

How to Adjust Your iPod Screen Brightness.

When you purchase an iPod, it comes with many default settings, including your screen brightness. You, however, can adjust your screen brightness. Whether you cannot see your screen, you want to save battery power or are just bored and want to play around with your iPod settings, this simple how-to will tell you how to change your screen brightness.

Steps:
1- Turn your iPod on. You can turn your iPod on by pressing any of the buttons on your iPod's spinwheel.

2- Go to the main menu. You can get to the main menu by pressing the menu button, as pictured to the right. Cut from opposite corners along creases to all of the corners of the small square in the center.

7-Take the two corners you didn't cut from and again fold them twice. Then fold in the triangles on the side.

8-Line up the rectangles so it is vertical to the table. Then fold in the squares on the end so that they are at a right angle with the rectangle in the center. You should get a 3-D square with no top in the center.

9-Fold the two flaps on the sides up and over the two squares that are touching.

10-Repeat steps 3-9 with the other square.

11-Put the smaller box inside the slightly bigger box.You should be able to open and close your box.

How to make a Limon battery ?

Batteries use chemical reactions to create an electric current. In 1800 Alessandro Volta made the first battery by layering copper and zinc in a jar of salt water. The chemical reaction created the first steady supply of electricity. The steady supply of electricity from batteries is used to power all sorts of electrical devices such as toys, light bulbs, radios, calculators and cars. Following Volta’s example we can make batteries, too.

MATERIALS:

- 6 lemons
- 7 alligator clips
- 6 pennies
- 6 large metal paperclips
- Knife
- Voltmeter
- Light emitting diode (LED) that requires low voltage and low current
- Calculator that requires low voltage and low current.

WHAT TO DO

1- Prepare the lemons for use in the battery by placing the lemons one by one on a flat surface and firmly pushing down on them with one hand while rolling them back and forth. This is to break up the insides of the fruit so the juices can flow more easily.

2-Use a knife to make two small incisions in the middle of each of the lemons. The cuts should be about ½ inch long, deep enough to reach the juicy insides of the fruit, and about ½ inch apart.

3- In each lemon insert a penny into one of the slits so only a small part of the coin remains on the outside of the lemon. Do the same with a paperclip in the other slit.

4-Line up all of the lemons so that the inserts alternate in order (i.e. penny, paperclip, penny, paperclip, penny . . . ).

5- Use an alligator clip to connect the penny from the first lemon to the paperclip of the next lemon. Continue connecting the lemons by using alligator clips to bridge from lemon to lemon, connecting pennies to paperclips.

6- The first and last lemons in the row will have a paperclip and a penny that are not wired to the rest of the battery. Connect an alligator clip to each one to create the leads for the battery.

7- Turn the voltmeter to DC mode and test the lemon battery by connecting the lead wires to the voltmeter. If the voltage is very low test each lemon separately using the wires connected to the penny and paperclip in each lemon. Lemons that are not working well can be adjusted by squeezing them to break up more of the tissue inside, moving the penny and the paperclip, or refastening the wires to the penny and the paperclip in slightly different locations. Also, check that the penny and paperclip do not touch each other directly.

8- Once the lemon battery is working well, as confirmed by the voltmeter, it can be used to power the LED. Gently bend the legs of the LED away from each other. Connect the wire that leads from the paperclip to the side of the LED that is flat and has the shorter leg. Connect the wire from the penny to other leg of the LED. Dim the lights in the classroom and the glow from the LED should be visible.

ـــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــــ

SOURCES:
"How Science Works," Judith Hann, Reader’s Digest, Dorling Kindersley Limited, 1991, p. 151."Fruit Cell" in "Awesome Experiments in Electricity and Magnetism."
